Turning Points Therapeutic Program is not an “ordinary school.” It is a treatment setting where all students are valued and given an opportunity to resolve the problems facing them. These problems are often complex. The solutions are rarely simple. Students, parents, teachers and the treatment team must work closely together in order to meet the goals set by and for these students.
Admission/Exclusion Criteria:
Children and adolescents considered for admission into Turning Points will meet the following criteria:
1) Classified Pre-Kindergarten through Grade 12
2) Meets criteria for at least one of the following diagnoses in the DSM-IV:
a) Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder
b) Depressive Disorder,
c) Dysthymic Disorder
d) School Phobia
e) Generalized Anxiety Disorder
f) Major Depressive Disorder
g) Adjustment Disorder
h) Attention Deficit Disorder
i) Oppositional-Defiant Disorder
3) Completes the admission process at Community Counseling Services, Inc.
4) Does not qualify for the diagnosis of Conduct Disorder.
5) Does not have primary diagnosis of Aspergers or Autism.
6) Is not deemed to be suicidal or homicidal (Psychiatric hospitalization would be recommended in these cases.)
7) Agrees to participate in treatment. Children and parents refusing treatment or habitually uncooperative with treatment will not be admitted or continued in the program.
Recommendations for admission to the Turning Points Program may come from physicians, therapists, hospitals, parents, courts or schools. Upon referral, the Turning Points Coordinator or appointee will meet with the parents and student to determine if admission to Turning Points is appropriate.
Program Services and Description
Turning Points educational program follows the standards established by the Arkansas State Department of Education for Alternative Environments. Certified teachers will staff the educational program. At least one of the teachers will be certified in special education.
Students 15 years or older may elect to pursue General Education Development (GED) course work while at Turning Points. Once the course work is complete, the student is referred to National Park Community College for final testing.
